Oh tomatoes, how I love you.
![]() I love tomatoes. Fresh whole juicy red tomatoes. Eaten whole - like an apple, chopped in a salad, cooked in pasta sauce, as a base for curry, on pizza or on toast with lots and lots of pepper. I love tomatoes in any form. It's almost tomato season down here in EnZed, I'm looking forward to gorging myself on them in the new year. However vegie gardener Mum's tomato plants aren't looking very healthy - we blame the compost. But it doesn't bode well for future tomatoes, my dreams of sweet juicy redness are fading. We might have to just cope with bought ones. But nothing tastes as good as sun ripened homegrown tomatoes. I ate some fresh tomatoes today. I chopped them up and ate them with some left over Tio Pablo corn tortillas. ![]() Corn tortillas are new in NZ, I'm so glad we've got them. But I learned somethings about them today: 1: make sure you don't let them dry out. 2: always heat them properly before serving. 3: they're probably best as quesadillas or enchiladas. ![]() Even though they were a bit tough they were still a great vehicle for tomato, lettuce and salmon. Wow, those three things are probably really high up on my "favourite foods" list [as yet unwritten.] I've also used Tio Pablo's masa, it was really good but I think I need a tortilla press! As far as I know Tio Pablo are the only company in New Zealand who provide anything that could qualify as the tortilla kind of "masa". I found it at my local New World - if you can't get it local check Tio Pablo's website. related searches : Oh
