This looks incriminating doesn't it?
Well, don't worry, it just beet puree. I made a chocolate cake using the recipe from Deceptively Delicious by Jessica Seinfeld.
A close up of the batter

The cake lost it's redness after being cooked
I adapted recipe for egg yolk frosting because I had 2 egg yolks left over from the cake. I based it off of this recipe, but here's what I did. I used 2 Tbl butter and creamed it with 2 egg yolks. I slowly beat in 2 cups confectioner's sugar and 2-3 Tbl milk and about 1 tsp of vanilla extract.

My friend Natalie and I threw a little get together and made chocolate ganache cupcakes using Ina Garten's recipe (we had a bunch of extra ganache leftover and dipped pretzels in it (salty + sweet = perfect), vegetables and pita chips with roasted eggplant dip from Martha Stewart, feta cups in mini phyllo cups,

I went to the Hampton Beach (NH) and had a blast
I also took some pics on the ride home

I got a pair of shorts for $5...
and a dress for $15!
I wanted to wear the shorts out to a birthday dinner at The Hardcover. I got a delicious piece of duck with blueberry and fruit compote because it's something we never have at home.
And I wore my glasses for fun
After dinner we went back to my grandparents home for cake
Pretty...
but it's really not good. Unfortunately, they get it from the same place for every birthday or celebration, so I took a small slice and didn't eat much of the frosting.
I made a slaw based off Spicy Savoy Slaw. How ever, I didn't add the chili, snow peas, or pepper. Instead, I added 1 cup of plain yogurt for some creaminess, and a 1/2 cup of dried cranberries for a hint of sweetness. I also used 1/2 head of regular cabbage and 3 or so carrot. It was great and maybe next time I would even add some peanuts or plain, unsweetened PB to the sauce for more of an Asian slaw.

Whisking in the yogurt...

The finished product
I did a bit more shopping at a local store that was sadly going out of business. I got tea cocktail infusions
a tea strainer
a cake plate
some little candles and holders
and a headband.
I was very proud of myself and made ugly (but tasty) sweet potato gnocchi. I wasn't sure about cooking/freezing them so I found this site helpful. The only changes I made were I used two large (instead of four small) sweet potatoes and I didn't use a fork or anything to shape them.

I made some sage garlic browned butter
You can try the gnocchi pan fried...
or boiled, the usual, but just as tasty way

I had some yummy cantaloupe and the rind kind of reminded me of coral

My random lunch one day: a poached egg and sauteed onions
