Oodles of noodles and cupcakes
I was out yesterday to interview Eddie Fung, proprietor of the excellent Zen (and Zen 2) about his new venture ? Hakka Noodles. The interview will appear in the first edition of our new print edition of Fork (whose name might change) when it comes out in mid-late March. Incidentally, the food at Hakka is excellent and quite cheap too, it’s 10am and I’m already craving the dumplings I enjoyed yesterday. They make their own noodles on the premises as you can see from the picture above, which was taken at the official launch last week. Early, exciting news for the first print edition of Fork is that Raymond Blanc has signed up for an interview. But enough of that. I was early for my meeting with Eddie what with it being nearly impossible to get a parking space in or near Adelaide Street. But to my amazement I got a space right outside the doors of Hakka Noodles at the first time of trying. So off I popped for a walk around, just to kill some time when I walked down Bedford Street and noticed a place which I think was called the Little Cupcake Cafe (or something similar… maybe someone can tell me the right name). It must only be open a short time, but the colourful cupcakes on show enticed me. I knew I was going for a big lunch with Eddie but I love cupcakes. It was a dilemma, a real pickle I found myself in. So I decided to think it over whilst enjoying a coffee and a lemon cupcake. And it was a pretty damn fine cup cake too. As far as I can remember it was about £1.70 for it, the other sweet stuff at the counter looked excellent too. It’s well worth a wee trip in when you’re next in town. And, yes, I did feel like a pig after a cupcake and coffee then a massive feed at Hakka Noodles… but it was worth it! Oh, and my review of Danny Millar’s Parson’s Nose that appeared in the Monday paper is online here. related searches : Oodles Noodles
