Organic Brown Rice Pasta With Marinara Sauce
One of my favorite (quick!) meals to prepare for the family is brown rice pasta with marinara sauce. It’s a staple meal in our household because it’s quick, tasty, and I know my kids will eat it. If your looking to venture out of the “whole-wheat” box, brown rice pasta is a good alternative. I’m not saying brown rice pasta is healthier, but it’s a good idea to vary your grains and some people do have an easier time digesting gluten-free grains like rice. There is a great selection of brown rice pastas at Trader Joes. Brown rice pasta is wheat-free and gluten-free, which makes it perfect for people with a sensitivity or intolerance to gluten. To prepare the pasta, bring a large pot of water to a boil and add the pasta. Be sure to add olive oil or the pasta may stick to the bottom. Cook uncovered for 7 to 10 minutes. Stir frequently, which helps to prevent the pasta from sticking together. Do not overcook rice pasta or it will fall apart. When it’s done remove immediately from the heat and drain. Pour the marinara sauce over the pasta. You’ll want to be GENTLE because brown rice pasta is fragile and it may fall apart if you stir too hard. I recommend using the Trader Joes Organic Marinara Sauce because it’s delicious This isn’t the greatest picture but I’m serious that my kids love this pasta: What are the “healthy” staple meals in your family?
