Partners in Crime

By Chefdruck Musings (Visit website)

About once a week, I pick up Juliette from school and spirit her away from our suburban world. We race down the highway for twenty minutes and head to downtown Columbus, to the North Market for a little lunch date, just us girls. I look forward to these delicious escapes all week.

Once we park, we head straight for our favorite stools at the Vietnamese counter, Lac Viet Market. We love to be close to the action, to make chit chat with the cooks and the servers, and to see the food being made. Last week we witnessed a heated fight between two cooks, punctuated by a dramatic door slamming departure. All in Vietnamese. It was more exciting than if Little Bear guest-starred on Toot and Puddle.

Compared to the joyful chaos of our family of five, having lunch with just my baby is a treasure. The fact that she loves food just as much as I do, and pulls the spring roll out of my hands just because it suddenly looks good to her, is just an added bonus. I'm happy to share my spring rolls with her, anytime.

Happy Wordful, not so Wordless and Way-back wednesday
