Pedal to the metal
Return of the savory oats: warning?not for the faint of heart (or stomach). I ate these oats a lot this fall and gradually abandoned them for sweet oats in the winter. Despite their unappetizing appearance, savory oats are delicious {once you can get past putting bbq sauce on your oatmeal}. I make the oats and cook the egg separately and add a little pepper, bbq sauce, and parmesan.
[my roommates think this is the weirdest thing I eat) Another delicious creation: broccoli chickpea pizza. I used a basic pizza dough recipe from Allrecipes.com, and added some olive oil and parm to the dough. Topped the whole thing off with some chickpeas and broccoli and more parm, and it was good.
Seriously?.more birthdays?! Yes, we love celebrating birthdays around here. It was Aubs? birthday last Friday, but we celebrated yesterday night with angel food cake and strawberries (courtesy of Mona) and a rousing round of Boggle.
[a seriously good cake; love the fresh strawberries]
More good eats: my favorite form of vitamin C.
Chocolate chip cookies: I?m following Mica?s example?when stressed out, baking makes everything all better. I made these for people in my clarinet section (we eat lunch together at least once a week), and they were gone?fast.
Salmon salad with broccoli, chickpeas, red leaf lettuce, and pickles. I?m trying harder to include fish in my diet at least twice a week. Salmon is a great source of omega-3 fatty acids, which have been shown to reduce harmful inflammation and play a positive role in brain health, cancer, heart disease, and arthritis. I am working like crazy and trying desperately to graduate on time. I had to push back my defense and graduation date because I had another major experiment fail yesterday. I?m getting anxious just to get this thing done and over with! Top strategies when super stressed: eat balanced meals get adequate exercise (I went for a 5 mile run last night and felt a ton better) drink plenty of water; take vitamin C and zinc! get enough sleep{basically everything your mom would tell you to do}. Alrighty, back to work. I hope you are all having a great week!
