Pickled Fried Herrings
The pickled herrings recipe is always a must do when I’m on vacation in Poland. I have never seen proper fresh herrings in NY. 2 lbs herrings, cleaned, beheaded (you can use whiting fish ) 1/2 cup all-purpose flour oil for frying 2 medium onions, chopped Pickle: 1/2 cup white vinegar 2 1/2 water 2 -3 bay leaves 5-6 allspice berries 5-6 whole black pepper 2 teaspoons mustard seeds 2 garlic cloves Coat the fish with the flour. Heat a pan with the oil. Fry on both sides until lightly browned. Put into a large bowl with the chopped onions. Cook the pickle using all of the ingredients listed above. Pour the hot pickle on the fish and onions. Cover with a lid. Let cool and then put into refrigerator for 24 hours. Serve with bread. It will keep in refrigerator for a week. related searches : Pickled
