PIMIENTOS DE PADRON (Padron peppers from Galicia, Spain)
I received a gift from my friend Joshua...a small bag of Padron peppers that his neighbor gave him when he returned from Galicia, Spain. Joshua does not cook -- but he sure likes to eat at my house -- so I was the receiver of this bounty.
I'd never seen these before and found out what they were through my friend Joan of FOODalogue on her last visit to New York. I had vacuumed-packed them and stored them in the fridge, but we couldn't find them when we went to look. When I did find them it was too late to share with Joan. When opening the bag the aroma of these peppers just penetrated my nostrils and I did smell a little heat. The saying goes "Los pimientos de Padron, unos pican y outros non" (peppers of Padron, some of them hot, and others not). These little green peppers are a gem. You might eat four or five and then you pick one that has the kick. Preparing them is so simple. All you need is olive oil, salt and a frying pan. I saved one pepper and I am sending it to Florida to see if my son can plant the seeds in his back yard. You never know....do you? Sorry Joan, they were really deliciosos! Buen Provecho! related searches : Pimientos
