I hope it may thus go thro’ many hands, before it meets with a Knave that will stop its Progress. This is a trick of mine for doing a deal of good with a little money.

This is a wonderful Philosophy to live by!

Almost everyone I now recycles on a weekly basis. This is good and keeps many, many items out of landfills. Sustainable solutions are better. For example; Drinking water is wonderful, recycling that plastic water bottle is good, but not buying a plastic bottle and instead buying and keeping a stainless steel water bottle is the best!! It is a sustainable solution.

While exploring Planet Forward?s Website I was shocked and disturbed by the startling facts I found.

-The air inside your home is on average 2-5 times more polluted than the air just outside your door. This is largely because of household cleaners and pesticides. I had NO IDEA!

I consider myself a pretty fanatical house cleaner. I can?t stand a messy house. I remember many years ago when I was fist married money was really tight and I couldn?t afford all the new fancy cleaners that were out on the market. I had to resort to simpler, cheaper ways to clean my house.

-The Average American Uses about 25 Gallons of toxic, hazardous chemical products per year in their home? major portion of these can be found in household cleaning products-In the past 50 years more than 75,000 chemicals have been introduced into the environment. Today 300 synthetic chemicals are found in the bodies of humans. Even newborn babies have synthetic chemicals passed on from their mothers.

 

-More than 75,000 chemicals are licensed for commercial use. More than 2,000 new synthetic chemicals are registered every year. The EPA tallied close to 10,000 chemical ingredients in cosmetics, food and consumer products.

 

 

 

-Very few of these chemicals were in our environment or our bodies just 75 years ago.
In 2000, major American companies dumped 7.1 billion pounds of 650 different industrial chemicals into our air and water.

 

 

 

-Within 26 seconds after exposure to chemicals such as cleaning products , traces of these chemicals can be found in every organ in the body. At any given time, there is 3.36 million tons of household hazardous waste to contend with in our country.

 

 

-Over 80 percent of adults and 90 percent of children in the United States have residues of one or more harmful pesticides in their bodies.

OK-Time for Change!

I was very fortunate to have received a MIY Cleaning Kit from the great people at Planet Forward. This is such a wonderful concept. They give you everything you are going to need to start your very own ?Make It Yourself? cleaning kit. Included in my kit was;

The recipes are easy, anyone can make them. They are comprised of everyday ingredient most of us have in our house anyways. Ingredients like vinegar, baking soda, olive oil, lemon juice, water and salt, just to name a few. It a toxin-free way of cleaning.

As I read the first recipe for all purpose cleaner-water, vinegar and 15 drops of the original blend oil. I am suddenly hit with overwhelming ?Déjà vu?

Remembering many years ago when money was too tight, I always used vinegar and water to clean my sinks and taps. Wow, I did this before because I couldn?t afford anything else -now it feels important, not sad as it once did. I have been using my self made cleaner all over the house this week. The oil blend is a nice clean scent and covers up the sometimes foul smell of vinegar. I have also found that during this week my sinks particularly in my bathrooms are easier to wipe out. Nothing seems to come off without much effort, which makes me wonder was I leaving a film residue with conventional cleaners??
