Poush Sankranti

By Bhalo Khabo (Visit website)

In the days of our chilhood in Kolkata, every year January the 14 was celebrated with pithe and payesh as a mark of Poush Sankranti or Makar Sankranti. Sankranti marks the termination of winter season and beginning of a new harvest or spring season.
Though where we are now, the winters are endless , we still crave for the Poush Sankranti goodies and this year for the first time I indulged in making some of the traditional delicacies known as "Pithe" . Ideally Pithe is a dough of rice flour with a filling of grated coconut and date palm jaggery. But different variations are also popular like Ranga Alur Pithe using Sweet Potato and Doodh Pooli.
So here it is , I am posting my first recipe in my blog.

Bhapa Pithe
Ranga Alur Pithe
Doodh Pooli
