Pranayama & Yogic Diet

Pranayama (Sanskrit: pr???y?ma) is a Sanskrit word meaning "lengthening of the prana or breath". The word is composed of two Sanskrit words, Pr?na, life force, or vital energy, particularly, the breath, and "?y?ma", to lengthen or extend. It is often translated as control of the life force (prana). When used as a technical term in yoga, it is often translated more specifically as "breath control". Pranayama is one of the '' health rejuvenating exercise'' in yoga


1, Set in a comfortable posture and breathe normally.

2, Close your right nostril with your thumb and inhale slowly through the left nostril. When inhalation is complete , close the let nostril and hold your breath for 2-3 seconds.

3, Now lift the thumb from the right nostril and slowly exhale keeping the left nostril closed.

4, Repeat by inhaling through the left nostril and exhaling through the right nostril. This is one cycle.

5, Do it 10 such cycles.

Yogic Diet

Under the yogic system diets are classified as satvik , rajsik and tamasik. The satwik diet is best suited for people suffering from coronary heart diseases. The diet has cereals , dals, fruits and vegetables . Milk and yogurt are also part of the diet, but should be consumed in minimum amounts. The use of soy milk is encouraged. The diet should be fat free and have no cholesterol. Keep the consumption of white sugar and salt to moderate levels. Coffee and other caffeinated beverages are not included in the diet.
