Punch Lane
43 Lt Bourke St One from the archives; pre-dating my blog. Not many words, but lots of juicy photos! Small cosy place, with a really warm and ambient atmosphere. As a wine bank, they have quite an extensive wine selection. Tapas / entrees: Rabbit & caramalised onion – tender, lean mean with sweet onions (though lacked a little seasoning + flavour infusion into rabbit) Pan seared saganaki ? golden brown crispy crust with a chewy middle, beautifully pan seared cheese!
Mains: Duck confit – meat falling off the bone, with slight crispyness of the skin, complemented by a sharper tart’ness from the soft red cabbage. Ocean trout – tangy sauce, nicely cooked trout. Skin was probably just a tad underwhelming – more CRISP please! Spinach & beetroot risotto – perfectly al dente, not too creamy, delicious blend of beetroot flavour. Dessert: Chocolate fondant – the “wait” was very worthwhile – it came out hot and oozed chocolate lava when broken. Not too sweet, but decadent enough for one to feel that warm satisfaction. This was definitely the highlight of the night. Rating: Yummy+1. Terrific execution of flavours. Too bad I was driving, and didn’t order any accompanying wine ? that would’ve been even better!
