Pyrocumulus

By stuff to eat (Visit website)

Okay, this post has nothing to do with food. It's hard to think about food now as I am in close proximity to the Station Fire, which has grown to a 19-mile perimeter. It originated in the Angeles National Forest above La Canada, California, on August 26.

Learned a new word today: pyrocumulus. This is a type of cloud that forms when you mix smoke from a wildfire and water vapor, as the two photos above show. I took these photos about a mile down the road from where I live. The smoke in the photo directly above is being pushed from the fire further east. I took this one at about 4 yesterday afternoon. By 7:30 the hills behind the Angeles National Golf Club, above, were on fire.

The helicopters are flying overhead with means to quench the fire, but it is spreading fast and is not contained. Luckily, no one has lost his life, but three people have been treated for burns.

Jack Nicklaus designed this golf course. I shot this yesterday afternoon. The fire progressed overnight, and I was sure the golf course would be closed today. I was wrong.

You just can't get between a white man and his golf game. Back with food Tuesday. Not barbecue.
