Rasa Vada (Serves 6)
Here were are with a simple and delicious recipe for crispy fried vadas in hot, tangy and spicy rasam, the very own Southindia's RASA VADA. These are served as a breakfast item in the State of Tamil Nadu and is quite popular in Southern part of Kerala..The recipe follows... To make Vadas Vada parippu 1 cup, soaked for at least 4 hours (Toor dal/chana dal) Asafetida ¼ tsp Red chilly powder 1 tsp Salt as needed Water as needed to grind the dal Oil for frying Preparation In a blender, coarsely grind the soaked dal, asafetida and red chilly powder using as little water as possible. Make small balls of this mixture and flatten it a bit with a spoon, deep fry in oil and keep aside to cool. For the rasam Tamarind lemon size ball (soaked in 2 cups warm water) Pepper 1 tsp Garlic 1 clove Sambar powder 1 tsp Salt as needed Coriander leaves a handful, chopped For tempering Mustard seeds 1 tsp Dry red chilly 3 nos Curry leaves a few Heat a pan and bring the tamarind water to a boil. Add the rest of the ingredients and boil for another 15 minutes. Now in another pan prepare the tempering with mustard seeds, few red chillies and curry leaves. Pour to the rasam and switch off the flame. Strain the rasam, soak the vadas in it for 30 minutes to an hour. Enjoy the rasa vadas with tea/ coffee or even as breakfast?.
