RASAM - THIN TOMATO SOUP
Add in more pepper and garlic and this concoction makes the best home remedy for a cold. Its easy to digest and so features on kids menu. I present the humble Rasam in its simplest form. What you need for Rasam Jeera (cumin seeds) 2 tsp Garlic 4 pods Black pepper 6-8 Curry leaves 8-10 Tomato 3 Tamarind small piece Dry Red chilli 2 hing /asafoetida Turmeric powder 1/2 tsp Ghee/clarified butter 2-3 tsp Mustard seeds 1/2 tsp Salt Corainder leaves 1 tbspn Tur dal 1/4 cup (boiled) Boil tur dal in cooker for 3-4 whistles. Roast jeera, black pepper and red chilli in a tsp of ghee.Grind roasted ingredients ,2 tomatoes , curry leaves and garlic to a fine paste. Add little water if required. Take the pulp of tamarind in water and set aside. Now in a pan add tamarind pulp, salt and ground mixture. Add 1 chopped tomato, hing, turmeric and cook for 15-20 minutes on low-medium flame. Add in the boiled dal and cook on medium flame for another 15 minutes. For garnish add finely chopped coriander leaves. Take a pan and add 2 tsp ghee. When ghee melts add mustard seeds and curry leaves.When seeds splutter add to rasam. Serve hot as an appertiser. Can be mixed with rice. related searches : Rasam
