Restaurant Review: Taller park, City

Having been at university for X years (the X being a single digit number thankfully) I am often on the lookout for cheap eateries that are close to the university. Better yet, places that offer delivery services. Barring the pizza and fast food varieties, there aren?t actually that many options to choose from if you?re wanting a meal delivered right to the footsteps of University of Auckland.

Although not quite as tasty as the other eateries like BBQ king on Durham and Customs St, or the many Korean restaurants sprinkled around the city, what Taller park offers is really really cheap price and a delivery service if you order above $30. It’s location, around mid-hill on Wyndham street if you’re walking up from the Queen street end, is fairly close to many clubs and bars as well so a lot of party people eat there too.

[Oily chicken rice] ~$12

This is one of the better dishes that they do, with the succulent chicken pieces drizzled over with oil, chopped onions and salt. It’s already seasoned as a BBQ chicken so there’s some smokey aroma particularly in the skin. The rice was good this time round, not too hard but it can be the case if you’re order quite late at night… although you’d probably not care too much if you’re eating this late, because I’m sure the assignment that’s due tomorrow is far more pressing than the quality of the rice you’re shoving down your throat :) The soy sauce and the little side dishes helps to liven the pallet up a little, but the lightly sweet and smokey flavor of the chicken is usually enough for me to finish the bed of rice underneath on its own.

The delivery service it offers is really useful for postgraduate students and undergrads alike, and this is one of the places I’d definitely recommend if you’re on a budget and can’t walk away from your seat!
