SFS (747) Kopitiam, Sunway Mas
Hey everyone! I'm blogging from the Miss World Malaysia 2009 pageant in Sunway Pyramid Tower. Currently waiting for my hair and make-up, and this is day 2. I'll try to keep you all posted about my daily activities. There's no internet available, so I'm using one of the organiser's broadband. In the meantime, enjoy this post. And you can be sure I'm getting my char siew fix after the pageant is over! =D
xoxo, Bangsar-bAbE It was the third day of Raya, when I decided to satisfy my dim sum cravings at Oriental Pavilion, Jaya 33. I went there only to find the restaurant pitch dark and a sign that read, ?CLOSED?. So we drove aimlessly to Sunway Mas Commercial Centre. I recently blogged about the char siew at Famous Seremban Favourites, and a few people recommended that I tried 747 Kopitiam just down the road. At close to 11am, it seemed like a better option to sit outside, away from the frying, steaming and boiling of the food. I walked up the lady and placed my order for two char siew curry mee (one large, one small) and two char siew kon loh wantan mee (one large, one small) ? pun fei sau (half fat, half lean). ?You must wait patiently for your food ya, don?t come and bother me about your order?, said the auntie. I agreed, and went back outside to join rif and his parents at our table. So we waited, and waited, and waited, and waited. Time passed...from 10.50am, to 11am, to 11.10am and then 11.20am. And still no sign of our noodles. As the sun rose higher, we started regretting our decision to sit outside. We ordered two sets of kaya toast to pacify our grumbling tummies. I kept looking at the auntie, hoping she would catch a glimpse of my ?muka kesian?. 11.30am, 11.40am and then 11.45am...finally, our noodles arrived. That was a long 50minutes wait for a bowl of noodles, probably the longest I?ve waited for food. As I was at my third attempt in photographing his kon loh noodles, I could hear rif breathing deeply ? a sign he was agitated. I passed his noodles back, else he might attempt to eat me.![]() The char siew was chunkily cut and roasted to perfection. The mahogany brown glaze was sweet and savoury at the same time ? the char siew was flavourful on the outside, while being tender and fatty on the inside. Despite its chunkiness, the meat literally melted in the mouth. Char siew aside, I found the wantan mee average. While it was springy and cooked just right, it was nothing spectacular. The curry broth looked unassuming, but it packed quite a punch. It had a good balance of spiciness, sweetness, saltiness and creaminess so I didn?t feel ?jelak? after finishing my bowl. I liked how generous they were with the ingredients - plenty of cockles, long bean, tofu puffs and char siew. Despite the generous portion of char siew, I was left craving for more. However, the thought of me not fitting into my dresses was daunting, so I passed. All in, the food was quite good - I especially liked the sizeable char siews, which were slightly nicer than FSF?s version. However, I don?t think I would wait that long for a plate of noodles in the near future, regardless of how good the char siew may be.Ambiance: 3/10 Price: 6/10 (non-halal) Char Siew: 8/10 Curry Mee: 7/10 Wantan Mee: 5/10 Verdict: Very good char siew, but very long wait. Just in case you have no waiting power, Famous Seremban Favourites is just up the road! Restoran 747 31-1, Jalan PJU 1/3D Sunwaymas Commercial Centre 47301 Petaling Jaya
