Shotgun alert

By Blog of Shannon (Visit website)

I had one of those mornings where you wake up 20 minutes before your alarm clock is about to go off because you have to pee so badly that you bladder is about to explode.  This situation provokes an internal conflict: do I get out of bed or do I close my eyes and try to sleep even though I'm about to pee the bed (and on my husband)?  Ultimately I decided to get up which meant I was up at 4:20am.  Man, it was a bummer!  I was up that early so I could go on a quick run before work.  I have no motivation to do such things in the afternoon.  I use this reasoning when I think about why no college volleyball or softball coaches were knocking down my door in highschool.  Had those games been in the morning, I would have owned them!

I was able to get in 3 easy miles, and I saw a massive deer toward the back corner of my normal route.

I was pretty darn scurred at first.  I heard some rustling noise, and saw a big shape in the dark.  The humunganoid deer was trespassing on some people's property who have an equally big dog.  We're talking a Westminster ?Kennel Club grade poodle.

(no, this isn't the actual poodle)

I've seen them walking their poodle several times, and always have to hold in a chuckle as I pass.  Anyway, I thought I was going to be attacked by an overly groomed, sissyfied poodle, but then I realized it was just a large deer.  Thad told me a while back that deer can actually be mean (I've never seen it), but I decided to turn around and run, Forest, run back home.  You know, just in case the deer wanted to eat me or something.

For breakfast, I had oatbran in an almost-empty-container of honey roasted peanut butter.  I added half a banana, 1 tsp chia seeds, vanilla extract and some cinnamon to the oatbran as it cooked on the stove.

Our computer network has been going crazy the past two days, so my computer spazed out at work all day.  I thought these kind of things only happened in Lake City!

Salad:
Spring mix
Mushrooms
Olives
Sweet peppers
Cucumber
Wheatberries
Pumpkin seeds
Fig infused balsalmic vinegar

+ blueberry greek yogurt for some protein.  I also snacked on some Plant City strawberries and almonds later in the afternoon.

I've been reading through 2 Corinthians over the past several days.  2 Corinthians is chock full of good life application verses on account of the Corinthian people being so corrupt and Paul telling them the right way to live.  Two verses in particular stick out to me in this season of my life:

"But he said to me, "My grace is sufficient for you, for my power is made perfect in weakness."  Therefore I will boast all the more gladly about my weaknesses, so that Christ's power may rest on me." -2 Corinthians 12: 9

And one chapter later...

"We are glad whenever we are weak but you are strong; and our prayer is for your perfection." -2 Corinthians 13:9

'Our prayer is for your perfection' just may be one the most beautiful lines I have ever read.  The implications of that verse leave me in a daze as I began to ponder Christ's perfection in my weaknesses.  Such good stuff. I don't know about you, but I find myself weak quite often.  I am weak in deep areas of my heart and soul that only the Lord knows about.  To know that His grace is sufficient for me brings me such comfort whenever I feel myself faltering.  I have read these verses time and time and time again, and will undoubtedly continue to do so.

For dinner, I made a recipe from March's Cooking Light magazine.  It was beef-broccoli stir fry.

See all the splatter marks on the page?  I had the recipe right by my side as I cooked.  It turned out fabulous. It's rare that Thad and I eat the same meal (last night I cooked him tacos as I made my pasta), but we both really enjoyed this.  I made brown rice for me, but Thad requested white.  He actually didn't know what brown rice was until tonight.  No, not kidding.  He thought brown rice was similar to yellow rice...except brown.  It always amazes me whenever these kind of things happen; we obviously have miscommunication issues sometimes!  I've asked him for a long time to eat brown rice and he has always said no.  Personally I don't taste that much of a difference between brown & white, but brown is healthier for you since it is a whole grain

I didn't have a huge bowl since I snacked on random things until time to eat.  Thad didn't get home until 8, and I waited to eat with him like a good wife. :)

Time for bed.  Hopefully I won't wake up 20 minutes before my alarm in the morning!
