Styling my Meals
Thanks everyone for your tidbits in the Ask Anything/Say Anything box- I really appreciate it! I?ll start answering some of the questions at the end of the week (and keep ?em coming!) This morning I woke up to discover the sky was falling?again. I know everyone?s probably getting tired of people complaining about the snow, so I?ll grin + bear it One thing I?m not getting tired of is coconut fluff! It makes one mean bowl of Banana Coconut Oats In le? bowl: 1/2 cup rolled oats 1/2 cup almond milk 1/2 cup water Banana Ground Flax Topped with coconut fluff I thought I?d share with you a snack that I?ve been munching on for the past week: Enjoy Life?s Sunbutter Crunch snack bar. This was the last one in the box and all I can say is?AMEN. These weren?t good ^any companies wanna send me products to review? __________________________________________________________________________ Lunch was very, um, lackluster today? but delicious all the same! A Garden Herb Sunshine burger on sprouted toast with a smear of spicy mustard + left-over grilled portabella mushroom with onions. I picked up those Sunshine Burgers because they are soy free and choc-full of healthy, fatty goodness. Two things that fit in with my February Goals Today in my Communicating With Food class, we learned all about food styling. There are many ?food styling? jobs out there in which people meticulously arrange & enhance food for commercials, movies, tv shows, and advertisements. Here are some interesting things I learned: If a company is advertising their product, they must use the exact product they intend to sell their customers (no Crisco in place of ice cream) A sandwich stylist inspects an average of 60 buns to find the right one Assembling a sandwich (like a hamburger for a McDonalds commercial) takes hours Common tools used for food styling include: tweezers, glue, torches, paint, and Vaseline That?s how serious companies are about attracting customers. It?s all about the visual appeal. Obviously, I understand this to some degree (hello food blog). Except I don?t use Vaseline or spray paint on my veggies- I don?t think that would taste very good. If this peaks your interest, check out this experiment in which they show the advertisement vs. a real photograph of the same food. Do you think people would still buy these food items if they used the real picture? When I was contemplating what to have for dinner, I knew I wanted to incorporate this product that I found at the World Market Seasoned Indian Flat Bread The dough was frozen into rounds, separated by sheets of plastic. The directions were really simple: Preheat a skillet, plop the dough on, heat for a minute on one side, a minute on the other side, done. I cut the flat bread into triangles & dipped them in a mountain of hummus –> With an Amy?s Texas Veggie Burger + roasted brussels on the side I?m not sure what the theme was here?Indian/Mediterranean/Southern American? Who cares, it was delicious Dessert obviously followed but I?m waiting until tomorrow to reveal it
