Sugar Cookies

I not a really big fan of sugar cookies. There is something about them that I just don’t like. On the other hand it seems that everyone I give cookies to has been requesting them. So this is the first time I have ever tried a sugar cookie recipe. I searched and searched around for the perfect soft sugar cookie. This may be it or it may not be. You decide.

Sugar Cookies

2/3 cup shortening

2/3 cup butter

1 1/2 cups white sugar

2 eggs

3 teaspoons vanilla extract

3 1/2 cups all-purpose flour

2 teaspoons baking powder

1/2 teaspoon salt

Edible gold glitter or granulated sugar for decoration

Heat oven to 350. Combine the flour, baking powder and salt in a bowl and set aside. In a mixing bowl, cream together the butter, shortening and sugar. Stir in the eggs one at a time and vanilla. Add the flour, baking powder and salt in portions and stir into the creamed mixture until dough comes together. Roll dough into balls and roll the balls in sugar. Place them on an cookie sheet about 2 inches apart.

Bake cookies 10 to 12 minutes until bottom is light brown.

Remove from baking sheets to cool on wire racks.
