Sugar Detox
I don't know if it's hormonal fluctuations or what, but I've eaten a whole lot of sweets this week and I'm not too impressed with myself. I find that my self-control starts out good in the morning, but by the afternoon, it's gone and I find myself reaching for the candy bowl at work. I don't have a candy bowl on my desk, but several of my co-workers do. All it takes is a walk around the department and I can find some. Sweets have always been my biggest downfall. I've dramatically changed the way I eat over the last 10 years and I'm proud of what I've accomplished, but I wonder if I will ever have complete control over what I eat when it comes to sweets. It feels like I'm fighting a never ending battle against myself. This coming week I really hope to be able to control these urges because I know how harmful sugar can be on the body. I want to learn how to enjoy sweets in moderation... I want to be more like my husband who can have one small piece of chocolate and be satisfied for the next week. I am going to try to be more conscientious about what I'm doing and feeling at the times when I'm craving sugar. And ask myself, will this piece of candy really make me happy or solve the problem? I truly hope I succeed.
Here are some of the eats that I ate this week that I haven't had a chance to post until now. Indian-style spinach and kale dish with potatoes and Quorn "chicken" and naan on the side. It was delicious and I'm seriously trying to get my husband to write a cookbook. It was so good!
I probably ate 5 of these throughout the week. Not all at one time though... We had friends over, and while they were drinking a beer, I enjoyed a Jones lime soda. I'm not a beer drinker. I'll drink an occasional glass of wine but that's about it. An all-American dinner: Smart dog on a spelt bun, homemade baked beans, pickle, corn on the cob, and a kale and purple cabbage slaw. Another meal cooked by my fabulous husband! A vegetable base broth made with garlic, pepper, soy sauce, tofu, bok choy, carrots and onion. At the end, he took the white of an egg and dropped it in. One of my usual breakfasts... Soba noodles with a peanut sauce, plus veggies. Mouth watering good stuff! I went back for a wee bit more... Yesterday's breakfast... I packed this for lunch yesterday: a slice of yogurt pepperjack cheese, lots of romain and veganaise on sourdough bread... and some pineapple... in their containers all ready to go in my lunch bag. I have my vitamins in the container on top. Dinner from last night: a veggie burrito from Chronic Taco. I ordered my burrito with lime flavored white rice, black beans, cheese, salsa, cabbage and lettuce. I also had a few chips and salsa on the side. Hubby and I also split a regular size soda. We rented some movies so I popped us up some corn. I made this popcorn using very little oil- less than a tbsp, no butter and a 1/c of kernels. I stay away from the microwave stuff because it tastes nasty and artificial. Prashant bought gummy bears while we were at Blockbuster, so I ate about a servings worth with the popcorn. Sweets that were not photographed this week: 1 glazed donut (eaten yesterday) and 3 miniature chocolates from earlier this week. This morning: a cinnamon and raisin English muffin with a cup of caffeine free cinnamon apple tea. I usually drink my tea sweetened, but this tasted great without it. I think I'll be buying a lot more of this flavor. It will help me consume less sugar, too. I'm not sure what's on the agenda today. My husband is still sleeping and I'm still in my jammies. I love lazy Saturday mornings! I may go for a pedicure... I'm on my feet a lot at work and I feel like they need a little TLC. Alright, I'm off to empty the dishwasher... Have a lovely day! related searches : Sugar
