Tahoe Charthouse

By Leslie Uhl (Visit website)

For our last evening at Tahoe, we decided to go to that old standby, The Charthouse.

So did just about everyone else in our group…!

I loved their glasswork and lighting!

One entire side of the restaurant is window, so pretty much wherever you sit you have a view.

The location is beautiful, on top of a hill with views back down to the lake.

We got off to a good start at the salad bar. Many types of greens and toppings to choose from, as well as caviar and anchovies. Anton loves both, though not together!

Lobster bisque, another good choice. Tasty and didn’t stick around long.

I ordered the “surf and turf” evening special and Anton ordered the steamed mussel appetizer. The “surf and turf” was a spare rib and scallop combination, which sounded good but was not so tasty. The ribs were good and tender, but the scallops were dry and overcooked. The garlic mashed potatoes were a bit too solid, like they’d been sitting too long.

One of our party ordered the “surf and turf” with grilled shrimp instead of scallops, and he enjoyed his meal very much!

Anton didn’t even eat his mussels; he said they were the driest, most tasteless mussels he’d ever had.

They took them off our bill.

However…

Our waiter was AWESOME.  Attentive, personable, funny. I would go just about anywhere for service like that!  I believe his name was Paul.

I would go back the again for the views, salad bar, and service, and maybe try a steak.
