Thanks coeliac society!
Yesterday morning, just when I was feeling like the day would swamp me with stress, pressure and require too much thinking of my poor sleep deprived brain - a parcel greeted me and sprung a little ray of sunshine into my day.
First up I'd better just point out that I'm not an officially diagnosed coeliac. Yeah, I know. I'm just gluten intolerant. I've got heaps more that I could say on this subject, like the fact that I don't think I ate gluten for a long enough period before the small bowel biopsy, but I won't bore you with all of that. The thing is that, in New Zealand and all over the world there are heaps of people with coeliac disease. Some lovely people, such as the Coeliac Society of NZ, have dedicated their time to helping out coeliacs and giving them much needed support. But what about those who are gluten intolerant? Don't we need support too? After all, we're living with the same strict diet that coeliacs suffer through! It's as if we're being forgotten, just because we don't officially have coeliac sprue. The parcel contained a folder, with heaps of goodies inside! Informational goodies! Yay!I did some research on coeliac.co.nz and discovered that they welcome gluten intolerant people too! All you've got to do is get your Dr to write a letter saying that you can't eat gluten. So you can guess what I did a few weeks ago! I tootled off to my Dr and asked her to write the letter. She really made me feel better when she said "actually, I think you've got coeliac disease, you're looking so much better, more energetic and I can see it in your eyes, you're healthy!" Aww! That was nice! So, back to the parcel! I was really excited when I saw that it had gluten free gummy bears in it! Wow! "Can life get better than this?" I said to myself... then remembered the three dreaded assignments that were due that afternoon. What an anticlimax. This little book has EVERYTHING that is made gluten free [or naturally gluten free] in NZ! It's going to be so useful! CoeliacNZ also publish four magazines a year. They sent me the four most recent ones! Yay! Reading! There was no time to read though, I had assignments to write. So I made myself some coffee.Have you ever considered joining a coeliac support group? related searches : Thanks
