THANKSGIVING MARTINIS - Pumpkin Eggnog Martini

By The MARTINI DIVA (Visit website)

THE PUMPKIN EGGNOG MARTINI  I have a friend who's grandmother made pumpkin eggnog and she wanted me to create a martini from that recipe.  I didn't have a Thanksgiving eggnog martini recipe and it sounded interesting.  I like pumpkin cheesecake and ice cream so eggnog wasn't too far afield from those treats so I said I'd give it a whirl.

She gave me her "Granny's" recipe. I'm going to be real honest here, I can be a lazy little cuss.  There was no way was I going to "clean a fresh pumpkin, bake at 350 for an hour and a half, scoop out the meat, smash up with a potato masher. . . . " and so on to get a tablespoon of pumpkin puree.  Nor was I about to make my own eggnog.  Apologies to Alton Brown, but I do have a life, ya know?  It ain't much of one, but it's mine.

I bought a quart of my favorite eggnog and bought canned pumpkin.  I did, however, go beyond the call of duty and used a fresh vanilla bean instead of vanilla extract.  Nothing compares to fresh vanilla seeds right out of the pod and I wanted those lovely little telltale specks of fresh vanilla to peek at me when I took my first sip!  And I did find some miniature pumpkins at Amazon for the decorative garnish (I saw them used on "The Best Thing I Ever Ate" and went hunting for them.) They're not edible, they're meant for craft projects, but they are the most adorable itty bitty little things you ever saw floating on top of this martini! Maybe Alton will be appeased by the fresh vanilla and my Gulliver's Travel sized pumpkins? Previous Thanksgiving Martinis:
