The Bakery
Tucked in a small shoplot in old Hartamas, The Bakery is located along the same row with The Bulldog pub and Aunty Nat. famed for its fresh breads and hot meals, I dropped by on a Sunday for lunch. They have a set lunch menu: RM15 for mains, ice lemon tea and dessert of the day while RM20 gives you an extra soup of the day. My lunch companion had Spaghetti Putanesca which is served with capers, black olives, onion, and parmesan cheese. She commented it was a nice way to have a vegetarian pasta and the flavours were great. I'm not a big fan of vegetarian pasta, I opted for Aglio Olio with Beef. As you can see, it has a generous sprinkling of garlic, herbs and beef. I enjoyed it very much although towards the end it was very oily. Still, I thought the price was definitely worth it. My favourite part of the meal came and boy I was surprised. I thought it would be some random Nestle ice-cream but lo and behold it was a really nice raspberry ice-cream topped with a delicious bicsuit with chocolate. I savoured every bit of that ice-cream and biscuit. Not forgetting the ice lemon tea. Nothing to shout about though. I would recommend earlier visits to grab traditional and wholesome fresh breads and pastries. Although it is pricier than most commercial bakeries, it is well worth the price.
