The Hungry Cranky Girl

Today I decided to venture outside of my normal lunch routine and actually go out to eat. I?m usually not a fan of going out for lunch because of the unnecessary calories and my lack of $$, but over the weekend I discovered my cousin?s wife works right down the road so we made plans to meet up for lunch this week.

We met at this cute little lunch place called Shakers. It had a zillion different types of salt and pepper shakes all over the café. It actually reminded me of my favorite breakfast place in Tallahassee, Jenny?s Lunchbox, which has vintage lunch boxes hung all across the ceilings. They like to really play up their names don?t they?

They had a great menu with plenty of yummy options, it was another one of those ?I don?t know what I?m going to order until the waitress shows up.? I ended up with the Spinach Salad which according to the description on the menu had Diced egg, mushrooms, crumbled bacon, raisins, tomatoes and red onion over fresh spinach leaves. Served with our Sweet & Sour dressing.

I asked for no bacon and the dressing on the side. The waitress told me it was a big salad and I probably wouldn?t need anything extra. She was probably thinking here is a skinny girl (is it to awkward to refer to myself as skinny? Maybe I should refer to myself as petite?) who asked for no bacon and dressing on the side, she probably doesn?t eat. Boy was she wrong.

The salad came and it was good and all, but I finished it in under 2 minutes. There was nothing to it! I was still hungry and was staring at my cousin?s pastrami sandwich like it was heaven. I held off and never asked for a bite, but I think if she would have left the table then there would have been no sandwich when she returned.

She did however graciously give me her pickle, which did nothing for my bottomless pit stomach. I have no idea what was wrong with me. That salad should have at least filled me up a little, not left me feeling so empty. I am also pissed that I paid over $7.00 for that damn salad and was not left satisfied at all. I?m sorry, but I?m cranky and still hungry.

As soon as I got back to my desk I dug into my planned afternoon snack, a Clif Nectar Lemon, Vanilla & Cashew bar.

I?ve tried the dark chocolate & walnut version of these before and was not impressed. However; a blogger out there (sorry I can?t remember who it was, speak up if it was you) gave a really good review of this bar so I thought what the hell? I?ll give it a shot.

Yuck! I did not like this bar at all. The lemon flavor just did not go at all, it was just icky. But like you might have guessed I was starving and ate the whole bar anyways. So now I am still at my desk cranky and unsatisfied with my food for today. I better have a good dinner to make up for this. L

I will now grudgingly be making my way through the rest of work. Hopefully there will be no vending machine raids in my future, thank god I don?t carry cash on me. Otherwise, I would already be satisfying myself with a nice chocolate bar. I hope everyone else had a better lunch today then mine.

Editors Note ?

I almost forgot I did have a good mid-morning snack today. I spread applesauce over 1 ½ graham crackers.

Here I am mid bite. Maybe my problem was this snack wasn?t large enough to hold me over?
