The Power of Twitter

By Carrots 'N' Cake (Visit website)

In January 2009, I took a course at the Harvard Extension School called ?Social Media for Web 2.0.? During one of the first classes, we discussed Twitter.

At the time, I had heard of Twitter, but I wasn?t using it because I didn?t really understand it. The instructor gave a brief demonstration and discussed how Twitter worked, which lead to an interesting conversation about how it could potentially change the way we communicate. By the end of the conversation, however, the majority of the room agreed that Twitter seemed pointless and it would never catch on. I guess we had no clue what we were talking about because, a few months later, Twitter exploded!

Sometimes, Twitter is pointless, but more often than not, I find it helpful, informative, and even motivating, especially in regard to early morning Saturday workouts. ;-)

Check out my tweet from last night:

Basically, I was blowing off my workout. Well, my Twitter buddies weren?t letting me off the hook so easily. A bunch of people encouraged me to go to Body Pump and others shared their own workout plans for the next morning. Angie and I even confirmed (via tweet) that our alarms clocks were set for an early morning wake-up call! Who knew Twitter could motivate me like that?!?

Even the snow that fell overnight did not deter my plans!

Cleaning the snow off of my car is never fun, but I was determined to get myself to Body Pump.

At least it was a pretty morning!

Breakfast

Before heading to the gym, I made myself a bowl of oatmeal with dried blueberries, ground flaxseed meal, and peanut butter.

After Body Pump, I rewarded myself with a Hawaiian Chocolate Nut iced coffee from Marylou?s. It was totally worth waking up at 6:15 on a Saturday morning!

When I arrived home, my little pug was still snoozing. He was so adorable, I just had to snap a photo.

Unfortunately, I woke him up.

Murphy was not pleased.

Lots of projects to tackle this afternoon!

What do you think of Twitter?
