Trying Out Bellagio-Lugang Café
Lunch at Lugang was planned two weeks ahead of time. We all wanted to try the new restaurant?s Taiwanese and Cantonese specialties. We were six in the group and we didn?t have any reservations because when I called, they weren?t accepting anymore. Thanks to Lloyd we got a table at once because he was there early (thanks to her Aunt too!). I really like the interior of Lugang, this you must see. Dragon on the wall with light. I love the purple seats.Service was really bad especially that during the time we dined there, their Operating System shut down so they had to re-do everything manually. Our first dish came after an hour, it was the Chicken Topped with Scallions and Ginger Oil (Php450). The chicken was okay, I love the scallion-ginger mix on top. Chicken Topped w/ Scallions & Ginger OilFriends raved for the Three-Cup Chicken (Php290), so we got an order. It?s the same like how it tastes in Hong Kong. Called as such because it calls for 1 cup each of 3 ingredients -- soy sauce, rice wine & sesame oil. Three-Cup ChickenBy this time, the Pork Xiao Long Bao (Php158/6pcs) came. I can say it?s way better than Crystal Jade, especially the wrapper. Athough it?s pretty good, I still can?t say it?s the best in Manila because I have yet to try Choi Garden?s since I?ve been hearing good stuff about it, especially from Uncle Albert. Pork Xiao Long Bao Soup oozing out.We ordered an appetizer, Garlic Pork Roll (Php160). The sauce was okay, tasted like Hoisin with garlic but pork?s texture was bad. Garlic Pork RollBy this time, the boys were getting pissed because of the slow service, they desperately needed rice. After ordering Thai White rice (Php50/cup), the Golden Fried Rice w/ Shredded Pork (Php220) came, this was cooked perfectly like how they serve fried rice in Hong Kong. (I?ve been using Hong Kong as a comparison since the best Cantonese cuisine can be found there) Golden Fried Rice w/ Shredded PorkAnother best-seller we tried was their Fried Prawns w/ Oats (Php480/5pcs). This one?s really good, crisp fried, a little oily but nevertheless yummy. Fried Prawns w/ OatsThe boys preferred Black Pepper Beef on Iron Plate (Php360). It was a bit bland, I wouldn?t really recommend ordering this dish. Black Pepper Beef on Iron PlateEveryone gave the Roast Duck (Php800/half) a thumbs up. This was the savior of our lunch. When I forked a piece, I heard and felt the skin *crunch*. I feel Auntie Vangie will love this. Roast DuckSince the restaurant was full at that time, they were able to serve us the Crab Roe & Pork Xiao Long Bao (Php198) towards the end of our meal. Good thing it was very flavorful, worth the wait. Crab Roe & Pork Xiao Long BaoLast dish served was the Taiwanese Stewed Minced Pork Set (Php230). It?s funny how this should be the fastest to be served and yet it was at the very end of our meal. For me, it tasted like Mom?s Stewed Minced Pork with Tausi. The perfect meal after an alcohol filled evening. Taiwanese Stewed Minced Pork SetOur meal lasted for 3 hours, whew! I wouldn?t really talk about their service anymore since it?s fairly new, we just tried to be patient and understand. So after the last dish, we already chose our desserts. Some were already not available so we had to make do with the Sago Pudding w/ Fresh Mango (Php110) which they liked, and Bellagio Breeze (Php190) which was just shaved ice with a variety of toppings -- red bean, monggo, pineapple, sticky ube, & pearls. Sago Pudding w/ Fresh Mango Bellagio BreezeLunch at Lugang overall was okay. Some hit the spot and others didn?t. Thanks to the group who waited patiently with me -- Boo, Ar, Lloyd, Mako & Cons.
