Unsuspecting Child Spaghetti
I started off blending a can of Italian tomatoes and some precooked spinach, zucchini and some leftover anti-pasto (olives, capsicum & eggplant). Then I added tomato paste, shredded roasted chicken and a splash of white wine. Very tasty and the veggies were hidden enough to be consumed with out fear. Eggplant, zucchini, olives and spinach are not yet on EM’s Approved List of Vegetables so I’m being a bit sneaky so he gets used to the taste. Of course dessert was BIRTHDAY CAKE! Elliot Mason’s Birthday cake – based on the Kamen Rider W character. The basic cake is a moist chocolate one – not too moist that I couldn’t carve out the head shape luckily. The icing/frosting is basically melted chocolate, butter & icing sugar – with food colouring of course. I was pretty concerned about the colouring changing the taste – but both colours still turned out very chocolatey. The black icing was based on dark chocolate and the green on white. The white stripe is white chocolate of course! The eyes are actually gummi candy circles, made with strawberry jello and extra gelatine. The W shape is white chocolate shaped with a quickie paper stencil. I was pretty pleased with the effort – although I probably should’ve thinned out the black icing a bit more to go for more of a shiny glaze. Still it was all pretty yummy and not sickly sweet thankfully. EM LOVED LOVED LOVED it. And really when it comes to Birthday cakes that’s the most important thing!
