Watermelon-Strawberry Nectar
I’m always looking for refreshing summer beverage ideas. When it comes to juices and smoothies, I love to experiment! So this recipe and photo from MarthaStewart.com got my attention. They actually call it Watermelon Blaster, but I think nectar?as in “a blend of fruit juices”?is a better description. It’s a sweet, juicy blend of watermelon, strawberries, and lime. This recipe makes about 4 juice glass?size servings. It can easily be turned into a smoothie by adding a cup of strawberry or vanilla yogurt and a small banana to the ingredients to thicken it up. INGREDIENTS: 3 cups cubed watermelon (seeds removed) 1 1/2 cups strawberries (stems removed) 3 Tbsp. lime juice (fresh or bottled) 1 cup ice cubes Sugar or honey to taste Put watermelon, strawberries, lime juice, ice, and sugar or honey, if desired, into a blender; blend on high speed until smooth. If your blender doesn’t crush ice cubes very well, you may want to use the crushed ice that you can buy in bags. In the Martha Stewart photo, you’ll notice a little star garnish on the glass. That actually was made from watermelon rind. To do this, just press a cookie cutter through the rind with the back of a wooden spoon. Then make a slit in the shape and add to the rim of your glass!
