Werner's on Changkat

By donnowhere2eat (Visit website)

While this might seem to be an odd review, seeing that I am in Germany and not in KL, Werner's in actual fact has its roots stemming from Germany. The owner, is also the nephew to very well known El Cerdo on the same road, Changkat Bukit Bintang.

My first trip to Werner's was with Olivia, Nicholas and Byron back in 2008 I think. Since then the menu has changed and my most recent trip was to celebrate Marie's hen night.

We started with a jug of sangria. Am not a big alcohol fan, but for the sake of Marie, I had a glass. By general concensus, it tasted something similar to medicine. I hardly have sangria so couldn't really say whether it did taste like medicine or not. Perhaps sticking to a good Riesling (citing that Werner's does do German quite well) would have been much better. Whilst deciding what to have for dinner, the owner came and made us feel at home. Not bad since I only met him once and I now forgot his name, again. Sorry!!!! He suggested that we have a combination of starters that was a combination of carpaccio, bruchetta, fresh tomatoes with buffalo mozarella and beef prosciutto.

It was indeed a good enough combination as we need not eat too much and still had room for our mains. Even for our mains we had three mains to share:

Salmon Sashimi Pizza

Pasta with vegetables wrapped in paper

Braised Veal Steak in Red Wine

(note to self: always always always write down what in the world you order). All three dishes were indeed delicious. The pizza was definitely different as you don't normally serve sashimi on a pizza. The combination was indeed a hit! The pasta was also unique and the portion was not too big that we would end up stuffing ourselves. The best for me was the Braised Veal Steak. The recommendation was indeed a blessing as the meat was tender and easy to eat. The wine was infused with the meat that you could savour wine without the alcohol.

For desert, we each ordered our own. I had Kaiserschmarrn. It is a rum and raisin pancake and is a specialty of Austria.

Johanna ordered the Andreas' Special: everything to do with chocolate

There was also an order for Tiramisu

I enjoyed my desert. But Johanna's order won hands down. No one can beat a chocolate desert!!! Oh, we also got free Limoncello. Not bad right!

The bill at the end of the day was HIGH!!!! In terms of the Malaysian Ringgit standards. I don't even remember how much we paid per person. But in any case, the ambience, the service and the music sort of makes up for the rather expensive price list.

So my take on the place:

Ambience                 4/5
Food                        4/5
Drinks                      3/5
Price                        3/5

Average price per person:                 RM60 (main dish + drink)
