When Foggy Splurge for Sunshine

By Marens Morsels (Visit website)

Good morning everyone! Look at how yucky it is here in ?beautiful California?.

How gross, It?s supposed to be summer. You can?t tell but it is actually misting so much i had my windshield wipers on.

This morning I woke up at 7am because my mom was putting down plastic in the hall so that our carpets don?t get ruined during the bathroom makeover. The crunch and rustle of plastic is not the most pleasant thing to wake up to, fyi!

So in the spirit of waking up early (for me, I know some of you crazy people get up even earlier) and in needing to go to the CVS I also splurged for something to? brighten up the morning.

Breakfast

I stopped at Starbucks for a morning favorite from days when Starbucks was a constant companion. Tall Soy Sugar-Free Vanilla Latte!

So delish! Now I want to address ?Sugar Free?.

Sugar Free

I?m not pro un-natural ingredients when they can be avoided, but I?m human and won?t jump off a cliff to avoid a little ?processing? ;-) . I like to use real sugar when baking, agave in oatmeal and never ever use the pink or blue calorie-free sweeteners. I like to go by taste, and usually I like how real sugar tastes better than fake.

I can honestly say that when it comes to vanilla flavored drinks, I just like how the sugar-free syrup tastes better than the sugared. The choice has nothing to do with calories. I also will put Splenda in my coffee or tea when I?m out and about. I don?t buy Splenda to keep in my house and I don?t drink coffee/tea/iced tea very often, so when I have a packet in a cup of coffee I don?t think twice about it.

I read in the June volume of Health Magazine an article called The New Numbers to Live By. Before reading this article I always thought my one splurge for Splenda was going to be the death of me, or account for something effecting me later in life. But this article says that you should limit your Splenda intake to 8 packets a day. 8 packets?! I maybe- maybe have 1.

There are lot?s of thing I have given up due to health benefits, but my very moderate consumption of sugar-free syrup and Splenda isn?t going to be one of them. I read in Bethenny Frankel?s book Unleashing Your Inner Skinny Girl that you should balance your eating like a check book. Some things are worth the investment to you, like consuming real down home calorie-loaded peanut butter. But to some people it might not be worth the investment and they would be just as happy sticking to the lighter Jiff. This is how I try to approach food decisions, I want to eat what I like, usually it?s the healthier option but sometimes I need a little Splenda ;-) .

Okay back on to breakfast? When I got home from my Starbucks run, I had one of my last Cantaloupe Muffins, oh I?m so sad I only have one left, but so glad because I know I wouldn?t be able to walk through the kitchen without grabbing one.
