Zaatar W Zeit

When I moved from the Mediteranean 8 years ago to come and live in the Middle East, I discovered in the wide culinary world of the region the perfect breakfast for a hungry girl like me, guilt free!
Still the portion counts because of the content of oil ;-)
"Zaatar W Zeit" for Zaatar and oil
Zaatar as the main focus of this morning plate is an aromatic mix of thyme, sumac and sesame seeds which the lebanese believe give strength to the respiratory system and calms the mind.

The unique green flavor is accentuated when we mix Zaatar with organic olive oil, this is how everyone eats it, I add myself a tiny amount of flax seed oil. This zaatar oil mix can be spread on any kind of bread for a healthy and tasty snack. Zaatar can also be added to many different dishes, including raw vegetables, avocado, salads, stir fries, soups...



It's worth tracking down from a speciality health store or middle eastern grocer when it's not available.
 

 
Spread the zaatar oil mix on bread, such as pita bread, arabic bread or dehydrated crackers, serve with raw cuts such as carrot & tomatoe, the juiciness of cucumber combines wonderfuly with zaatar, sprinkle it over any vegetable, you will add an aromatic effect to your plate. Lebanese make a zaatar pizza called Manakeesh and many other zaatar delights.
The perfect drink to serve with this plate would be green tea with mint but I am still in need of evil coffee!
This breakfast is loaded with good fats and I reserve it for the days when my body needs it. I don't recommend it as a daily habit!

1 inch ginger
1/2 lemon with peel
1 green apple
1 cucumber with peel
