Zona's Rice Bowl
If you are in a rush, want something filling and have chosen to dine at The Hub (at SUNY Purchase), grab a rice bowl from Zona Mexicana. You don?t have to worry about the over stuffed burrito landing all over your lap, you can save the rest for another meal if you so desire, and it?s the fastest thing you can grab at Zona.Obviously, there is rice in this dish. Watch out though, sometimes the old rice and the fresh batch get mixed together and you are left with dried out rice. You can chose from different types of chicken, beef or veggies to add some body to your rice bowl. Personally, I think the safest meat choice at Zona is the Chicken Tinga. It always looks like chicken and has a little flavor to it since it is the ?spicy chicken option.? If beef is your thing, be careful, sometimes it looks?questionable. The veggies look like a mix of onions, peppers and zucchini, but I myself have never had them so I can not speak of their quality or lack there of if that is the case. From there you can decide if you want black beans, which sometimes looks rather tasty but can also have its days you should stay away. There are a bunch of salsas to choose from. There is pineapple, black bean and corn, and regular spicy salsa to give you an idea of what they offer. Lettuce, tomatoes, cheese, jalapenos and sour cream can all be generously added to your signature bowl of rice. If you are really craving guacamole, don?t be surprised if you have to pay for it. We are on a college campus, they charge for everything! In the end, on good days the rice bowl is a wise decision. It can be spicy, tasty and completely filling. Like I said however, some days you should really just tolerate the long sandwich line and go that route. The rice bowl is a good option if you know what to look for and it can really satisfy your Mexican grub cravings if you catch them on a good day. *In picture: Rice, chicken tinga, salsa fresca, cheese and sour cream*
