Allens of Mayfair is the oldest butcher’s shop in London having proudly occupied the same site for the last 120 years. The history of the building is evident as soon as you approach the shop but once inside, it’s immediately obvious that this is no backwards-looking kind of establishment. What’s most striking are the carcasses proudly hanging up in the middle of[...]http://dinnerdiary.org/2010/02/27/butchery-ma...

This was the second recipe we made from the meat butchery course the OH went to at Allen's of Mayfair a few weeks ago. One of the bags he returned home with was a bag of bones; chicken bones to be more precise. So, being the ever resourceful one who tries, but doesn't always succeed, not to let anything go to waste, I decided a chicken soup would be a perfect lunch, or starter for[...]http://direbonappetit.blogspot.com/2009/11/ch...

The Annual MayFair in Harvard Square: Where dapper, intellectual charm meets FRIED DOUGH. These young gentlemen caught my eyes as the poster boys for my friend Foster's blog . Young, spruce, all-American men with something to say and broken glasses. But these gentlemen were not the only ones drawn to the beacon of fried dough. This little sugar addict was camped out in front of[...]http://theforeignkitchen.blogspot.com/2009/05...

WHEN spread, the pinkish orbs of Semplice?s menu resemble a g-stringed bottom. A curious detail to have slipped the attention of the posterior (oops, interior) designer responsible for rehabilitating London?s first ?Spaghetti House? into Michelin stardom. But beyond that interpretation, the dining room is a chic space in the seam of an upmarket boutique. A softly lit blend of piano grade ebony,http://douglas-wine.blogspot.com/2009/07/fair...

‘The first person I ran into at Richard Corrigan’s new restaurant was’ Richard Corrigan. As I arrived outside, about to walk in, he walked out, escorting another gentleman with him. Pointing across the street, he showed off the squatters that had moved into the £6.5m townhouse directly opposite. At 18 Upper Grosvenor Street, a black [...]http://foodsnobblog.wordpress.com/2008/11/07/...

PART I DAMN ESCOFFIER?AND HIS LITTLE DUXELLE TOO! Failure in the kitchen. Utter, complete, and total failure. Today was (queue the ominous chords) tUrNIng vEgetAblEs day in the cuisine kitchen. Turning vegetables is a traditional (and rather antiquated if you asked me) French practice of preparing vegetables for yes, even cooking, but mostly for presentation. When it came to my[...]http://expatisserie.blogspot.com/2010/01/maki...

I like steakhouses. They are great for mea(e)ting up with mates being a halfway house between a restaurant and a pub ? plus food is uncomplicated too. My mate is getting married soon (Matt I?m so proud of you geezer, sob.) and we thought it would be a great place to catch up. Steak and beer I said? (I also added some scratching which blokes can relate to… but let?s keep that[...]http://feedproxy.google.com/~r/londoneater/~3...
