Beautiful Day!

By Blog of Shannon (Visit website)

Howdy!  Such a beautiful day here in Lake City.  Hot, but the sun is shinin' and it's just pretty out.  I got up this morning and ran the same 5.2 mile route that I ran last Saturday, but I feel so much better than I did last week after finishing.  I definitely believe that what I eat the night before affects (or is it effects?) how I well I feel while running.  Speaking of the night before (aka last night), after work I bolted up to Brittany's house for a purse party.  I snacked on an apple on my hour drive over to Jacksonville.

I stopped by Whole Foods first to browse and mentally compare prices.  Is it strange that I enjoy meandering grocery store aisles?  It was actually my first time in a WF.  I loved it!  I didn't think the prices were exorbitant, at least not compared to Publix and some of the stores in Gainesville I've shopped at.  After fully inspecting the entire store, I headed over to the party.  It was a very sweet time with even sweeter ladies, and I ended up with two way to cute bags:

An orange and blue backpack (Go Gators!) and a cute lunch box.  The lunch box has a thermal lining, and I thought it would be perfect for produce shopping (that is seriously the silliest statement I may have ever made to justify buying something).  I don't have any of the cloth shopping bags.  Well, I take that back, I have a horrid black one that my work passed out to all employees, but it's horrid.  The new green bag is also bigger than a lunch box, so I can store snacks, water bottles, etc. for any road trips.  Very excited about my purchases :).  At the party, I had a *glorious* piece of chocolate pumpkin bread and 2 cups of apple cider, both were homemade by Brittany.  The apple cider was a. maz. ing.  Britt even gave me the recipe!

As I was leaving Brittany's house, I realized that I was hungry.  I thought about waiting until I got home, but it was already 9:00 and I still had an hour's driving time.  I don't like to eat too late at night (especially whenever I had a run planned for the next morning), so I decided to go back to Whole Foods.  They have 2 big buffets worth of food.  Unfortunately, they had packed up all the hot food whenever I got there (they were closing at 10), but the cold stuff was still out!

Just what I needed.  I ate it Thaddeus Tisdale style in my car, parked in the parking lot, lol!  Also with it, I had a raw organic kombucha tea.

And yes, I shamelessly took my picture with it.  It was that good.  It definitely had a different taste to it (I had GT's Botanic No. 9), but no lie, it made me feel really good!  My stomach felt great and it gave me a boost of energy (not like a caffeine or sugar induced burst of energy).  Admittedly, I was dragging before I ate dinner and dreading the long drive back in the dark on the interstate.  But this tea totally got me through it.  I've never had an energy drink (like Red Bull) or anything like that, honestly none of that stuff really appeals to me.  I'm quite the skeptic at any and all products that claim to "give you energy" or some claim like that.  Eat a banana or a piece of toast or something.  While this bottle did have lots of benefits written on it (boost your immune system, help eyesight, digestion, reduce headaches, etc. etc.), I just wanted to try kombucha tea!  Two thumbs up.  I'm doing a horrible job of explaining it, but it made me feel good.  Definitely a nice treat every once in a while.

And to today.  I had a pre-run snack before I set out.

Toast w/ Barney Butter.  I ran 5.2 miles in a nice 52 minutes.  Then I jogged (jogged as in one step above a walk) and walked another 1.2 mile for a cool down.  It was an awesome run.  Pretty much the opposite of last week whenever my intestines were about to die.  The key for me?  Not eating too much fiber the night before, and breathing.  I've always tended to stop breathing while exercising.  Well, not stop, but not take enough deep breaths.  I also iced my knees for 20 minutes whenever I got home.  I don't think I talked about it to much, but my left knee has bothered me all week long.  A couple of months back whenever I was running stadiums at the high school every single day, I think I most of done something minor to it.

Once I got back from my run, I enjoyed my all time favorite Saturday, heck any day, breakfast:

Whole wheat pancakes topped with almond butter and a smashed (microwaved) banana.  Heaven!

Off to enjoy my Saturday!
