My Life In a Nutshell

By Gavan Murphy (Visit website)

Hey guys, so I’ve had a few emails recently from peeps asking what I’m up to on a regular daily basis. I have to be honest, I’ve thought about putting posts up before about whatever was on my mind, but then I figured I should keep the site just about food related stuff, which as you can see is what I did. I guess (some) people are interested in what I have to say so I’m going to give it a go, starting today.

Right now at my full time gig I work for a family as their personal chef in Santa Monica (serving b/l/d). It’s a pretty sweet deal and let me just say on a side note when I make it big, the first thing I’ll probably do is get a chef. Is that just lazy or obnoxious? A chef havin’ a chef. It’d be well cool comin’ home and having dinner ready with no stress. Not too shabby.

Then the missus and myself have our catering business, The Healthy Irishman, INC. Let me just tell you how the name came about. It was actually the missus who came up with it. It’s not so much about a healthy guy cooking Irish food but an Irish guy cooking healthy food. Profound right? It seemed like a logical name as it summed me up. Those of you that know me know I’m all about health, fitness and food. It’s kinda my mantra. I’m not one of those chefs who’s all about having to go to a restaurant because chef so and so owns it and it’s cool. I could give a fuck to be honest. What impresses me is food that’s unpretentious, fresh, delicious and healthy. I love the food I cook and I try to keep it as simple as poss–I want to cook food I’d eat. Rustic rules.

I work out like a nutter so much so that I’m up at 3.45am everyday to go to the gym. Ok, this is really down to my schedule with work but it suits me since I don’t seem to need much sleep anyway.  Besides, Harvey Levin and myself are now gym buddies (in a very masculine weight-lifting way) –guess the busy boys do what they have to do, right? I do love being a busy boy.

So between my job and our catering business we write for a fitness mag in Ireland and two other websites as well as our own. It’s a pretty full plate but I love the craziness of it. I probably have a few screws loose for sure.

Right now, as in today, Saturday, I’m planning for our trip to France in a couple of weeks which I’m really excited about. (BTW I still need a hotel for Paris if any of you have any leads.) I haven’t been there since I was a kid and herself has never been there so it’ll be amazing. The whole Murphy clan is going so it’ll defo be a big piss up no doubt. We’ll head to Ireland for a few days on the way back to LA.

Anyway, just a little insight. I’d love some interaction with you guys so leave a comment below about anything. Doesn’t have to be food related. Ask me why I left Ireland or why I like tattoos. Whatever. I love talking about social media too and if you are into that come follow me on twitter @healthyirishman or friend me up on facebook.

Cheers
