Sunday Sweetness: chocolate salami - Salame Preto
This is something I grew up with in Portugal. It is fun to make and kids LOVE IT! If there is one thing my teen ALWAYS asks my parents to bring back from Portugal it is this one. And when we go there and go to Almoçageme Farmer's Market she goes straight to the stand where they sell these. And the toddler of course also loves it as she is such a sweet tooth. Make sure you right away make two batches as you will see it disappears pretty fast. This is a recipe I found in my Great GrandMother's book. INGREDIENTS1 3/4 cups (200 grs) of grated semi-sweet chocolate 2 cups (200 grs) of Maria cookies all crumbled up (if you cannot find those cookies it works if you use Animal crackers) 1 3/4 cups (200 grs) of granulated sugar 9 tbsp (125 gr) butter at room temperature 4 large egg yolks (as the eggs will not be cooked, make sure to use the freshest eggs you can find. Look for local farmers who sell their eggs or if you are lucky a neighbor that has chickens!) extra butter to spread on the parchment paper DIRECTIONSIn a large bowl add the chocolate and the sugar and mix them well Add the butter in small pieces and stir Add the cookies then the egg yolks then knead it all together well with your hands to form a tight paste Spread a sheet of parchment paper and grease it with some butter Place the paste on top of the parchment paper and roll it tightly as it creating a salami and with flat ends then roll the parchment paper all around it tightly Place it in the fridge overnight or at least 5 hours Remove it from the fridge and cut slices and serve related searches : Sunday
