?rion Cafe, Leeds, LS6.
Hyde Park corner houses a number of cool eateries. This one is King. I love love love greek food. And i love anybody who is passionate about food. Kostas Tsiknakis, the charismatic owner, runs this deli and cafe in the heart of Leeds' student district. The food is genuine and delicious. We popped in for a quick bite the other night, and he went out of his way to make us feel at home. He served us pork and beef patties with melted feta, a greek salad and tzatziki. I left feeling full and glow-y and i practically floated home.
It's the kind of place where you can go in any time of day. Breakfast, coffee and laptop time, lunch and dinner. They even cater to parties- a constant stream of dishes comes out and you can bring your own booze. And Kostas loves it. He is super involved with all of his customers, and was very keen to chat to me about his food. I was fairly tipsy one night and challenged him to swap houmous recipes with me- a houmous battle some might say (think rap battle, just more ganster). Although i wouldn't admit it at the time, he wins hands down. I'm going up for a lesson in it soon so i'll take a snap and add a recipe. It doesn't end there- there's the falafel and the vine leaves, good GOD the stuffed vine leaves. I dream about the vine leaves. I'll have that recipe too, thanks. We went down last night for cake and free internet and Kostas treated me to a slideshow of his olive farm in Petrokefali, Crete. Too cool. Head down to another of his ventures, Kostas olive bar in Doncaster. Failing that grab some lunch at Hyde Park. You won't regret it.
