Baking Before Nap: Banana-Berry Bread
What do you get when you cross a banana with a berry? X goes to preschool most mornings and when I pick him up there's a good hour to hour and half stretch of time before naptime begins. Some days, X will tell me about his morning at school, we'll play a little in the playroom or he'll do his thing while I do dishes or finish up what I was working on in the morning while he was at school. Other days, we put our heads together and bake up something good for our afternoon snack. Here's what we got up to last week! Banana-Berry-licious I admit it - sometimes I buy too much produce. Bananas go uneaten, lettuce shrivels up in the crisper before we even think of having a salad and even berries, which can be price-y, sometimes go bad before we get around to eating them. So I'm on a new mission - no banana (or berry) left behind! In this week's episode of Baking Before Nap, I present my new (not-so) secret weapon: Banana-Berry Bread. Okay, I know I'm re-inventing the wheel here but here's how we put ours together. First, I sliced some bananas and put them in a bowl. Before I handed X the fork to start smashing them, I poured in some blackberries and raspberries that we had hanging around. And then he went to town. We poured it into a loaf pan, put it in the oven and while X was napping, our berry beautiful banana bread was baking. What a treat to wake up to this!
