Canadian Adventure

By Leslie Uhl (Visit website)

Wow! What a week!

I missed my Daring Cook posting due to travel timing but it was SO worth it!

Off we went for a week in the Canadian wilderness. North of Vancouver, South of Whistler in a beautiful place known as Squamish, B.C.

On our trek up the coast, we passed an amazing looking CUPCAKE shop and I just had to stop in and take a couple of photos!

Though they were in the process of closing for the night, they were very kind and answered questions, took out cupcakes to show me for the camera, and were just super-friendly!

Original Cupcakes. If you are in the neighbourhood of one of their shops, try a cupcake! They come in every flavour I could wish for, and hopefully yours, too.

Our driver, Michael, (who was awesome) considered all of our group’s food preferences and took us to dinner at a lovely restaurant that is part of a small chain of restaurants known as Milestone’s.

The restaurant was very open and friendly, with a large fireplace and TV outside on the patio.

There were so many yummy sounding things on the menu that we all had a hard time choosing (there were 7 of us).

The Bellinis (their signature drink) were lovely to look at and someday I hope to return and try one.

Anton and I shared a beet and watermelon salad with goat cheese to start. Very good, and we loved the yellow beets!

Anton got the miso-glazed cod. Delicious, and beautifully presented as well. We all tried it!

Last, but not least, was my choice of scallops with bok choi in a yellow curry sauce. Spicy and YUM! Just what I desired…

Next morning, at a ranch near Squamish, I noticed a large flock of truly free-range chickens. It was wonderful seeing them living a good life, free to roam and peck in a beautiful spot. There were lots of wandering sheep, too…

Huge blackberry bushes by the side of the road, heavy with fruit.

Were the bears on vacation in the tropics?

I know this has NOTHING to do with food, but we had an AWESOME experience at Whistler Bungee!

We hope to get back to Vancouver soon and try out more of their wonderful restaurants, beaches, and other exciting offerings!

Back home for now…and back to school for the kids!
