Grilled Cheese with Apples and Caramelized Onions
Seriously. And it was all just $30. I had to practice a lot of self control in order to not down the entire container of juice and potato salad as soon as I got home! I used some of the fresh country levain bread and one of the apples to make a tasty grilled cheese. First, I caramelized 1/4 cup of diced onion by cooking it over medium heat for about 7 minutes (careful not to burn). Then I added a tablespoon of balsamic vinegar to the onions and allowed it to cook down for about 3 minutes. I layered thin slices of Kerrygold Dubliner cheese and plain cheddar cheese onto the bread. (You can use any type you want, but in my opinion a sharp flavored cheese is best.) I topped the cheese with the caramelized onions and thin apple slices and finished with one more layer of cheese and the second piece of bread. Last, I grilled my sandwich in a tablespoon of butter until the bread was crisp and the cheese melted. So simple and so good. related searches : Grilled
