ICream in Wicker Park then Scooter's Frozen Custard, Chicago

By Chrysanthemum (Visit website)

icream - Chicago, ILThis post is dedicated to Lolia aka Fro-yo girl, she is serious about her fro-yo. Her expedition takes her all over the Bay Area, including her trips to Southern California and her frequent visits to Chicago. She loves fro-yo with a passion, follow her on twitter @froyogirl.

Loila is one of my first friend I made through the love of fro-yo. Our favorite is Tuttimelon or as Loila calls it Tuttilicious. For about 6 months I visited Tuttimelon everyday, yes, everyday.

When I read a few chowhound post about iCream in Chicago I was intrigued. Obviously, Chicago is no stranger to molecular gastronomy with Alinea and Moto. Avenues at the Peninsula is currently under Chef Curtis Duffy (ex Chef de Cuisine at Alinea) so there are influences of molecular gastronomy.

iCream is located in Wicker Park, a mixture of hipsters and Lauren Conrad look-a-likes, it is reminiscence of Haight and Ashbury with a sprinkle of the Marina in San Francisco. Cleverly named as iCream the treat is made to order.

There are suggested iCream combination, one may choose from ice cream or yogurt, sugar free, coloring, toppings, fruits and the list goes on. Since it was my first visit I went with #7

The frozen yogurt does not have a creamy consistency, it was dense but light. I wouldn't compare it to regular frozen yogurt as it was more novelty then tradition. We waited about 10 mins since each order is made to order, a great time to watch all the eye candy walking in the neighborhood.

Scooter's Custard was the second time I had frozen custard. My first experience was at Luv it Custard in Las Vegas and I did not have a good experience.

But Scooter. Wow. The custard was fantastic - thick, with homemade goodness toppings perfectly mixed and a vanilla eggy finish. I ordered the Coconut Cream Pie - graham cracker crust, coconut flakes and whipped cream. My goal is to one day try every flavor at Scooter's Custard.

Ted Drewes' frozen custard in St. Louis is on my wish list and it is also available at Shake Shack in New York City. Any other frozen custard suggestions?
