Restoran Sai Gong, Kepong Kuala Lumpur

By You Get What You Give ... (Visit website)

(NON-HALAL)

Sigh, it can be rather daunting when it comes to eating with the family. Dear ol' bro always expect me to suggest where to eat ... "You're the food blogger, you tell us where to eat...". So, I usually have to wreck my brain to come up with a name and after that...cross my fingers and cross my toes that the food is not gonna disappoint (or worse, that the restaurant won't be closed!). Seriously, sometimes I get so tired of eating out that I don't even know where to go!

As if it's not enough being subjected to that by my family, my friends throw that same line at me too...Yup! ..."You're the food blogger, you tell us where to eat..." What's worse...sometimes giving them a name isn't enough, I'll get a call when they are seated in the restaurant and they are calling me why? Because they want me to recommend what dishes to order! *FAINTS* Hahaha....Yes, the life of a food blogger can be rather taxing on the mind. So, it was on another one of those occasion when bro went ... "You're the food blogger, yada yada yada...." hahaha, and we ended up here.

We arrived rather late and the place was already packed to the brim, something I had expected after having read some blog posts about the place. We finally got a table after waiting for about 10 minutes and I told the family to expect to wait a while for the food to be served too. The staff who took our order had earlier gave us some recommendations and each of us put in an order of our choice.

Sis-in-law, the ever young, slim and healthy one put in a large order of Stir Fried Spinach (I think???) which we rather enjoyed...It was exceptionally "green" looking, fragrant and cooked just right. I enjoyed slurping up the vege gravy. Well, if it wasn't spinach, I enjoyed "whatever it was"...hahaha....

Spinach

Bro's pick was the Sam Pui Tin Kai (Three Cups Farm Frogs). This came in a claypot and was extremely aromatic. This is a Taiwanese preparation style - three cups being made up of 1 cup of sugar, 1 cup of rice wine and 1 cup of soy sauce; all these with onions and and added hint of ginger. I tried a bit of this and found the meat very tender and the sauce very flavourful indeed but still am not really a fan of frogs.

Nephew's pick of Salted Chicken came looking rather different from Aun Kheng Lim's version from Ipoh. I found this chicken dish mediocre and probably not something that we would order again as our taste buds all agreed that this fell short of our expectation.

Herbal Chicken

I was very satisfied with my pick of Sesame Seed Spare Ribs....This is honey sweet (don't order this if you prefer savoury ones) and the meat was tender and juicy. Peppered with generous amount of sesame seeds, it gave an added fragrant aroma to it. We enjoyed it tremendously though Teckiee had a different experience with hers.... Eating this ribs was akin to lapping up ice-cream on a hot summer's day to me! The marginal utility on this was sky high on the first bite! Hahaha... Yumz...great stuff!

Sesame Pork Ribs

Mom didn't really know what to order and bro ended up ordering steamed fish for her....Don't ask me what fish this is. I repeat...I'm not a fan of fish and have no idea what sort of fish this is. I personally think it's scary to see a fish on a dish, with its mouth agape and eyes wide open (hahaha...seeing that most fish don't have eye lids, I think sharks do!) staring back at ya! I should be having fish nightmares! LOL!

Steamed Fish

Well, overall dinner was good I would say and I've been back here a couple more times since then whenever I think about the sesame seed spare ribs... :o) Mmmm...I'm thinking about it right now!
