As foodies, we are indeed very blessed. We live in rich, industrialized nations. Most of us are middle class or above and have access to whatever we want to eat, for the most part(maybe not caviar, lobster or Dom Perignon). We have a little money in the bank. We can indulge our cravings for ice cream, pizza or whatever food mood happens to strike. All over the world, and right here in America as well, many people are without the basic necessities, and many go to bed hungry at night. As a foodie, when I think of this, I feel spoiled and indulged. And call me sensitive, but it almost makes me cry when I think of someone going to bed with hunger pangs. Though I can't save the entire world, I can do something by donating to hunger relief organizations. My two favorites are
Doctors Without Borders and
Feeding America. I encourage you to count your blessings today and to give something if you can.
