Cinnamon and Sugar Pie Crust Cookies

Pie Crust Cookies

I was looking through my collection of cookie cutters and came across a dog-shaped cutter. If there's one thing you should know about me it's that I'm a huge dog lover. Growing up, my family had a Golden Retriever named Dude. This wasn't just any Golden Retriever, this 110 lb+ golden was my best friend. He was a small, rugrat-sized turned lion-sized dog that never left my side...we were the best of pals. Before Dude, I always knew I loved dogs but once we welcomed him into our family, my love for dogs stuck and grew by the day.

I always told my parents that I wanted six dogs when I was older. I had their breeds all picked out and their names. Trust me, I was deadset on having six dogs...all at once. Ask my parents and I'm sure they could rattle off a few of the breeds and names. I'm sure people thought that I was going to be a future cat dog lady.

As soon as we could, my husband and I adopted our first dog together, Caster. A move and and new city later, I had the sudden urge to adopt another dog. My husband refused, unless I could find another dog that looked just like Caster. He should've known better. Present a challenge to me and I become bound and determined to conquer the challenge. A few days later I was searching on PetFinder.com when I came across Caster's twin, Tugboat. I showed my husband and he was completely shocked. Right then and there he knew that Tugboat was going to be ours. I contacted the adoption facility, found out when we could meet Tugboat and a few days later we were driving home with Tugboat in our car. He was all ours.

We still only have two dogs but I keep telling myself that a third one would be a little ridiculous when living in a D.C. rowhouse. Until we move and have more land for the dogs to roam and explore, we'll be happy and content with our two furballs. They bring such love and joy into our lives and I could not be more thankful.

In celebration of my pups, I pulled out the cookie cutter and got to work baking these easy and fun treats that pair perfectly with a nice, big bowl of vanilla ice cream. They are coated in sugar, spice and everything nice...that's what dogs are made of...or something like that.
