Day Three: Susan G. Komen, Bake for the Cure Ribbon Cookies
Nothing says Bake for the Cure than Bake for the Cure Sugar Cookies! Sugar cookies are sweet and tender little bites of heaven that just melt in your mouth. Actually if you think about it they just scream Southern! Southern women are naturally sweet and tender, Right? We are delicate with a crispy edge (that edge being our sassiness that let's other's no we are not to be messed with!). Just kidding, its not just southern women it is all WOMEN! You thought I was gonna say I was kidding about the analogy didn't you? Well I'm not! I really think we are all like sugar cookies. We are perfect all dressed up with icing, drops of pearl candies and layers of sugar or just simply plain.
Susan G. Komen Breast Cancer Awareness is widely known for its signature pink ribbon. A ribbon that symbolizes hope, love and endurance. A ribbon that with our help can change the face of cancer. I knew when I opened the Bake for the Cure cookbook last week and saw these beautiful pink ribbon cookies that this recipe was a must for Ms. Belleicious. Where you might ask did I get the ribbon cookie cutter? NO WHERE! Just me,myself and I made those little ribbons. Did it take some extra time, Yes, but it was worth it in the end when I had these cute pink ribbon cookies to pass out to my friends and family. I simply rolled out a long thin strip of dough and twisted to form a ribbon. Simple as can be and its something even a beginner can do! Of course I needed to add my own little twist to the cookies. I didn't want to mess with anything on the outside like the color of icing or the shape so I decided to mess with the inside. GET THIS- I added pumpkin pie spice to half of the dough and with the other half I added poppy seeds. I know your thinking it sounds weird to mix pumpkin pie flavor with the sugar cookies but I tell you it was MAGIC! Do you believe in Magic? If not, then you'll soon believe when you taste these cookies. I was so surprised at how amazingly soft and moist they turned out. I have made plenty of sugar cookies before, each having many many steps, but this recipe from the Bake for the Cure cookbook couldn't have been any simpler or faster to make. Prep time- 30 min, Refrigerate 2 hours, then decorate! I like to actually taste the cookies itself so I just barely iced the ribbons and made the icing thin enough to sort of dip the cookies in and let the icing so where it may. I truly hope you all will make these cookies, preferably the pink ribbon ones, sometime this month and support Breast Cancer Awareness. I promise that if you haven't personally been affected by this horrible disease then you most probably know someone who has. What a wonderful gift it would be to drop these off at someone's door! Hope you all have a wonderful start to your week and do me a favor and leave a comment here and on the other 2 Bake for the Cure posts. Each comment you leave not only shows your support but helps me out too. The blogger with the most comments at the end of the month receives a gift card to a kitchen store and I really really could use! Help Me, Help Others, and Support Bake for the Cure! Oh, and don't forget that each comment you leave enters you in the Pink Bake for the Cure baking prize.
