Foot Work

By Food And Passion (Visit website)

Im a big sucker for shoes.  I love them so much, and although i cannot really afford it- i just always dream of getting new pairs everytime i see great collections on display.

Apart from looking gorgeous in wearing them, shoes are actually designed to protect our feet.  But with the ongoing trends now, it turns out that shoes are conspiring against us, inflicting upon us a host of ailments from bunions to back pain, tension headache and joint problems.

So if you wanna know what these shoes are doing to our feet exactly, keep reading.

FLIPFLOPS may be beach friendly but the slips and the straps may cause friction and blistering.  The extreme flatness offers no arch support, thus strains the Achilles tendon and the back of our legs.  If you must wear them, choose the ones made of natural fibers.

SLIP-ON PUMPS the ballet type slip ons are always thought to be sparing us from the agony of skyscraper heels but are actually dangerous coz they offer no foot support.  Wearing pumps for long periods could lead to slouching and neck pain.

TRAINERS avoid flat trainers as these offer very little support.  Wearing too much trainers can lead to arthritis, so wear it only for set periods and make sure you are wearing the right pair for the right activity.

HIGH HEELS which most women like me just love love.  However, most foot doctors are totally against it and say that wearing heels is like walking on your toes all day, which tilts the pelvis forward and creates an unnatural balance all the way up our bodies.  Wearing heels leads us to having a tight back, calves and hamstrings, as well as neck pain, and tension headaches.  Our rib cage is apparently compressed and our organs are put under undue tension. Now, it is not realistic to tell a woman not to wear high heels so we are advised to cut down the hours we wear them and go for the non-pointy pairs.

Looks like whatever we wear, there’s a bad side of it so Im saying moderation is a must and a great foot health habits.

Here’s a few tips on keeping our foot hale and hearty:

1.  Pick up small objects with your toes to train the small muscles

2.  Rise up and down on your tiptoes a few times daily, either on a flat surface or step, to help flexibility

3.  A good Achilles stretch (one foot in front of the other, arms outstretched and the toes of your front foot pressed against the wall) to give a nice lengthening down

the back of the heel

4.  Gentle forward folds of your toes to help lengthen the hamstrings that are pulled tight when wearing heels

5.  Move gently down through heel sizes

6.  A good pedicure and foot spa every now and then

Now I don’t know about you girls but i still love shopping for chic and fab shoes, in fact, i got a new pair recently.

Thanks to my mom who knows exactly how to make my heart skip a beat.
