RSVP Redux: Strawberry Oatmeal Muffins & a Giveaway

By The Baking Barrister (Visit website)

This post is part of RSVP Redux. Every month, food bloggers cook a recipe that has showed up in Bon Appetit's RSVP section, where readers request restaurant recipes.

For those of you who don't follow me on Twitter, I was drying one of my two favorite bowls about two weeks ago when it slipped and hit the granite counter top. Mimicking my poor heart, it shattered across the kitchen, cutting my finger in the process.

I needed two stitches on my middle finger, but that's unimportant. I really miss my bowl.

I know it sounds crazy, but this was the perfect bowl. I enjoy the everlasting strength of Corelle, but the sets only come with those 20 ounce shallow salad bowls.

Not good enough.

This bowl was a Corelle 28 ounce super soup/cereal bowl. The operative word here is cereal. It's the perfect cereal bowl, giving you enough room to really mix it up. In fact, it's good for any dish that you need to mix, such as pasta, salad, or rice dishes.

Best bowl ever.

Now I'm down to one bowl, and since I hate doing dishes, I often go without it. Granted, I stole both bowls from my mom, and will likely steal another one over Mother's Day weekend, but that's a long time away.

To mourn my Special Bowl, I baked these delectable Strawberry Oatmeal Muffins over the weekend. Slightly adapted from a recipe by Tazzaria, which is in Visalia, California, they were perfectly moist on the inside, with a nice caramelized and crisp top.

In addition to these muffins, I would also like to honor my bowl with a Giveaway. See below for details.

Strawberry Oatmeal Muffins
Recipe can be found here.

Substitute blueberries for 1 1/3 cups diced strawberries, and walnuts for pecans. Muffins will take 2 to 3 more minutes than recipe states.

While on my New Zealand trip, I picked up some special (and transportable) Kiwi products that can't be found anywhere else. The giveaway consists of one jar of Gold Kiwifruit Conserve, which would be delicious in yogurt, or atop waffles, pancakes and ice cream. There is also a jar of Gold Kiwifruit Chutney, as the human Kiwis love their chutney. My dad and I decided that it needs to be eaten on turkey, chicken, or a good burger. And I'm also throwing in a Feijoa chocolate bar.

If you want to enter the giveaway, drop a comment below telling the world about your #1 food eccentricity. The giveaway closes on April 3, 2011 at 10PM PST. That's Sunday, so get spilling.
