Today, one in five Americans is unemployed, underemployed or just plain out of work. One in nine families can’t make the minimum payment on their credit cards. One in eight mortgages is in default or foreclosure. One in eight Americans is on food stamps. More than 120,000 families are filing for bankruptcy every month. The economic crisis has wiped more than $5 trillion from pensions and savings, has left family balance sheets upside down, and threatens to put ten million homeowners out on the street.

As harsh as these numbers prove, The Great Recession has left a scores of broken dreams in the form of empty houses, vacant stores, and shattered lives.   Share dinner with your neighbor, do a can jam, plant a row for the hungry, and remember to value the people around you.   Rebuilding our country must be done brick by brick, life by life.  Lets pull ourselves up by the bootstraps and get to work.   Looking at history provides little solace for today.  But other than the knowledge that we have made through worse before.  I urge you to not feel helpless.  Everybody’s effort makes this country stronger in every noble way.   The Library of Alexandria exists beneath your fingers and in the very aether that binds us.   Shake the ennui from your thoughts and replace it with a can do attitude.
